About Kanata
Kanata sits northwest of Ottawa's core, outside the Greenbelt. It was developed starting in 1964 by planner William Teron as a self-contained "new town" built around green space and modern housing, and grew into what's often called Silicon Valley North, home to a dense cluster of tech companies. Combined with neighbouring Stittsville, the area reached 137,053 residents at the 2021 census; Kanata itself is estimated at well over 90,000.
The Canadian Tire Centre, home of the Ottawa Senators since it opened in 1996, anchors the area's identity, and Hazeldean Mall (shared with Stittsville) serves as its year-round retail hub.
