About Carleton Place & Almonte
Carleton Place grew up around the Mississippi River from 1819, a mill town whose stone main street is still the centre of it. Almonte, twenty minutes upriver in Mississippi Mills, did the same thing with woollen mills and kept the waterfalls running through the middle of town. Both have spent the last decade filling with people who work in Ottawa and wanted the drive.
